Blade is our first Champion Akita. He was bred by Pamela Peterson of Royal Kennels. Blade was ranked as a special in 1996 and 1997 with extremely limited showing, all owner-handled. He was bred only twice and sired our lovely CH Valiant's Dazed and Confused and Valiant's Dawning of Epic (pointed). Blade is a classic American bear-style Akita. He defines the terms "much substance and heavy bone" and carries an awesome headpiece. You just don't see his type anymore, though I can see a bit of Blade in his great-grandson, Striker. Blade was shown as a veteran several times and always was in the ribbons because he still had fluid movement into his golden years. He LOVED to show, and people would ask me ringside how old he was and I would smile and say "Nine...going on two.". I trained Blade in obedience though we never got that title. He also earned his therapy dog title and Canine Good Citizen title. He was a very, very sound dog, OFA Excellent, and never had any bone or joint problems. He lived to be 13 and a half. I will miss Blade and remember all of the memories we made together.
