Valiant's Zoboomafoo

Shown at 9 months, first weekend out, back to back Best of Breed over special
Candid photos by Priscilla McCune, Kuroi Kao Akitas (thank you Priscilla)

Zabu was the best dog I've ever bred. The End. Just kidding! Seriously though, he was as close to my ideal version of the standard as an Akita I've personally seen. This boy had it ALL - head, bone, awesome structure, dynamite rear, flashy color and maybe the best, extroverted personality of any Akita since his mom Dazey. Normally my friends will tell you I can pick my dogs apart to death but I just couldn't find a fault on this dog. Not one! He certainly would have set the show world on fire and put me on the map! He was undeated up to his death, winning several Best in Match puppy wins and 2 back to back Best of Breeds at his first point show. Fate was VERY unkind to me and took this awesome boy from me at only 9 months old, a victim of bloat. He made it through the surgery OK but threw a blood clot and died. I was about ready to throw in the towel and quit and probably would have if it weren't for Josie's litter on the ground at the time. Zabu was a breeder's dream (even my friend Priscilla liked him and she is known for not liking black LOL!) and a wonderful companion too. Very tolerant of everything 3 year old Courtney could dish out (in the photos he is being her patient and submitting gracefully to a Doctor's exam!). I miss him horribly and 9 months was not nearly enough time with this wonderful puppy.
